Your 90s cartoon
Two ways to turn a photo into a cartoon
Filter-based tools trace the edges of the photo and flatten its colours. They are fast, and they mostly fail on faces: the result is still clearly your photograph, with a cartoon effect painted over it.
Generative tools rebuild the image instead. The model reads the face — the line of the jaw, the spacing of the eyes, the way the hair falls — and draws a new picture in a chosen illustration style. Faces survive this treatment because the underlying structure is kept even when the drawing exaggerates it.
Toon90 does the second. That is the difference between a photo with an effect on top and an image that reads as a cartoon character.
What makes a good source photo
- Front-facing, with both eyes open and visible.
- Even lighting — a window or a plain wall beats direct sun and hard shadows.
- One person per photo. Group shots produce a muddled result.
- No sunglasses, masks or hands across the face.
- Crop close to the head and shoulders. A small face inside a wide shot gets less detail.
An ordinary selfie from the camera roll is usually the best input. It does not have to be professional and it does not have to be high resolution.
What you get back
A portrait drawn in a 1990s hand-drawn animation style: bold uneven outlines, hair as large shapes, simple expressive eyes, flat warm colour and a retro frame around the portrait. The output is composed to work as a profile picture — it stays readable when scaled down.
The preview carries a watermark. One payment of $5.99 removes it and unlocks the clean HD file together with unlimited future generations.
What people use it for
- Profile pictures for social and messaging accounts
- Group gifts where everyone gets the same style
- Avatars for game and community accounts
- A stylised portrait for a personal page, invitation or card
About the photo you upload
The upload is used only to produce the cartoon. It is not published to a public gallery, it is not used to train a model, and it is not retained on the server once generation completes. The privacy policy has the detail.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The whole process runs in the browser, so iOS and Android both work without installing anything.
What file types can I upload?
JPG and PNG. Ordinary camera photos and phone screenshots work as they are.
Will the cartoon still look like me?
The structure of the face is preserved while the drawing style is exaggerated. It reads as you, drawn by someone else.
Can I make more than one portrait?
Yes. One payment covers unlimited generations for life, not a fixed number of credits.
Will a pet photo work?
The model is tuned for human faces. Other subjects produce mixed results.
